The island of Eleuthera is charming and beuatiful but part of its charm is that it is like going back in time about 30 years. The electricity goes off sometimes, but usually never for more than an hour at at time...the phone service is occasionally spotty AND we drive on the left!

All of the above add to the charm of the place, but we think its a good idea to keep our guests informed about what life is like on an out island in the Bahamas.  If you are looking for a large casino, big night life and people selling souvenirs on the beach, we are not the place for you.  If you want to totally unwind and really let go of your electronics for a bit of time, we are your place!  Of course, we do have internet and wifi and cellular service, but it is not what you are used to at home.  On Eleuthera, you can put down your electronic devices and walk hand in hand with your friends or family down a pink sand beach and really, truly take a break!  We also have some great restaurants, killer beach bars, awesome snorkeling and diving, friendly locals and really fun local events.  We are so happy that you are coming to our island and we welcome you with open arms and hearts!

More of the nuts and bolts stuff...

Bug Spray-You will need to bring bug spray as we do have plenty of mosquitos and sand fleas on the island.  They are most active around dusk so its a good idea to spray up before going out to dinner or walking along the beach at night.  Bring some cortisone cream in case you do get bitten.

Money-The Bahamian Dollar (BSD) is pegged to the value of the US dollar (USD) so you can use both interchangeably in the Bahamas.  In fact, you can pay a bill using either USD, BSD or a combination of both, if you like.  The local ATM's dispense Bahamian Dollars but you can get US dollars if you go inside and get help from a teller.  Please make sure to check with your bank at home about the fees that they charge for foreign transactions as it can be quite a bit.  At Hut Pointe Inn, each suite has its own in-room safe, for your convenience.

Driving-We drive on the left in the Bahamas.

Medical Care-We only have basic medical services on the island. The closest hospital is on the island of New Providence where our capital city of Nassau is located.  If you have allergies or need medication for any reason, please bring it with you, as we do not have a place to purchase medications on the island. Should you feel more comfortable having an emergency service that can take you back to the US in the event of an emergency, please contact the good people at MASA Assist. They are a fantastic service and we highly recommend them for all travelers.  Click on the photo below for the link to MASA.
